Service Calendar

Tree services are a year-round activity.  While most property owners focus on trees during the summer months, critical services can actually be provided throughout the year, depending on your landscape and tree inventory.  To assist property owners with planning, we provide the following calendar for services.

January/February

During our hard freeze months in Minnesota, tree care is not usually at the forefront of homeowners’ minds.  However, this is one of the better times to trim most trees – when they are dormant.  During the summer months trees are more  susceptible to diseases  and insect infestations. Tree removal, especially for larger trees, is easier on lawns and landscapes when the ground is frozen as well.

March/April

Now is the best time for Crabgrass prevention.  Preparing your lawn early will ensure a healthy and weed-free turf.  This is also a good time to trim ornamental and fruit trees for shape and structure.   Do not prune oaks after 4/15.

April/May

Shrub pruning and landscape maintenance are required in early spring for the upcoming growing season.  This is also the time to treat for the prevention of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).  Ash trees left untreated will die and need to be removed.

June/July

Summer is the time for maintenance trimming and removal of undesirable trees and branches.  Continue treating for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and begin treating for Dutch Elm Disease and Oak Wilt during the month of June.  Watch for signs of insect infestation and disease.  Call for consultation if questions arise.  This is also a good time to schedule extensive pruning for the upcoming fall/winter dormant season.

August

Aeration of lawns during August is recommended.  Now is the time for removal of trees that die or become diseased during the growing season.  Don’t forget to keep trees and shrubs watered well during this seasonally dry period for continued health and beauty.

September/October

Now is the time to begin the second phase of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) treatment and prevention.  The fall pruning season starts in September.

October/November/December

Late fall is the time to fertilize shade and evergreen trees and water thoroughly until the ground freezes.  More extensive pruning and trimming is recommended at this time through early spring.
