Planting

Think of the tree you purchase as a lifetime investment.  How well your tree grows is dependent upon the type of tree and location you select for planting, the care you provide and follow-up care you give it after planting.  This is why professional planting services ensure the longevity of your landscape investment.

The best time to plant trees is in the fall after leaf drop or early spring before budbreak.  However, given the appropriate care at the nursery, proper transportation and care given during planting, trees can be planted throughout the growing season.  Proper handling during the planting is essential to ensure a healthy future for new trees and shrubs.

For existing trees, transplanting is often necessary or desirable.  This is a delicate process as well.  It is important to understand that the root system is reduced 90-95% of its original size during transplanting.  Without proper care, trees commonly exhibit what is known as transplant shock which is caused by trauma during the digging-up and re-planting process.  This is usually indicated by slow growth and reduced vigor following transplanting.  Proper site preparation before and during planting with good follow-up care can significantly reduce the shock to your trees.
