Our 6-Step Removal Process

From your first call to the final cleanup, here’s exactly what to expect when you hire Trees by Forest for a tree removal.

Free On-Site Assessment

A certified arborist visits your property at no charge. We assess the tree's condition, surrounding structures, access points, and the safest removal method. You'll receive a written quote before we leave.

Removal Method Planning

We determine whether the job calls for technical climbing, sectional cutting, or crane-assisted removal. High-risk trees near structures always get the crane treatment — no exceptions.

Property Protection Setup

Before any cutting begins, we lay protective mats over grass, position barriers around landscape beds, and mark utility lines. Your yard is protected throughout.

Controlled Tree Removal

Our crews remove the tree in sections from the top down, controlling each piece with ropes, rigging, or crane cables. Nothing is simply dropped. Every cut is calculated.

Stump Grinding

We grind the stump 6–8 inches below grade, eliminating tripping hazards and preventing regrowth. Grindings can be left as mulch or removed — your choice.

Full Cleanup & Final Walk

All wood, chips, and debris are cleared. We rake the area, remove tracks from equipment, and do a final walk-through with you to confirm your complete satisfaction.

Tree Removal FAQs

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
It depends on your municipality and the tree’s size or species. Many cities require permits for trees over a certain diameter or those on protected species lists. We handle the permit research for every job and can file on your behalf in most jurisdictions — ask us during your estimate and we’ll take care of it.
Most residential removals are completed in a single day. A small to medium tree typically takes 2–4 hours from setup to cleanup. Large crane-assisted removals may take a full day or occasionally two. We’ll give you a realistic time estimate when we assess the job.
Yes — we include stump grinding to 6–8 inches below grade with all full-tree removals. This eliminates the stump, removes the tripping hazard, and prevents regrowth. If you’d like the stump ground deeper or the grindings hauled away rather than left as mulch, just let us know and we’ll include that in the quote.
By default, we chip all brush and haul away all debris, leaving your property clean. If you’d like to keep the wood for firewood, we’re happy to cut logs to your preferred length and stack them. Just let us know before we start — there’s no extra charge for firewood cutting.
Very close — even directly against a foundation or overhanging a roofline. Our crane-assisted removal method was specifically designed for this scenario. We can remove trees with zero drop zone, lifting each section vertically and placing it precisely in the loading zone. This is one of our most common jobs.
